How to make whale stew (for all old mariners, with tongue in cheek)

Take 1 large whale, plus 2 rabbits (optional. Dissemble whale into handy bite-sized pieces. Add seasoning, salt and pepper to taste. Cook over your galley's coal stove fire for about 2 weeks at 350 degrees F.

Your fine whale stew will serve a crew of 3,800. If the crew is larger or hungrier, the 2 rabbits may be added, but do this only if necessary, because most sailors do not like hare in their stew.
